Disney Veteran Nancy Kanter Signs Overall Deal With Netflix

Nancy Kanter, who helped Disney launch Disney Junior, is moving over to Netflix.

Nancy Kanter, a long-time executive for Disney Channel, is moving over to the streaming service Netflix. Kanter’s Available Light Productions will develop and produce kids and family programming for Netflix.

Available Light Productions partnership with Netflix with see the company develop both live-action and animated programming.

“Throughout my career, I’ve challenged myself to think differently, imagine bigger, and aim higher,” said Nancy Kanter in a statement. “I am delighted at this opportunity to partner with the innovative creators and executive team at Netflix who value those same aspirations, and I look forward to working with them to create new stories that will inspire the minds and touch the hearts of kids and families everywhere.”

Netflix’s deal with Kanter continues to show that the streamer is getting serious about beating Disney at its own game. Netflix aims to be on the same level or be better than Disney in the animation game very soon. Netflix doesn’t want dominance in just one space they want to also dominate the kids and family space.

Kanter’s latest role with Disney before departing the company was Executive VP content and creative strategy for Disney Channels Worldwide, which saw Kanter oversee content strategy for all Disney Channels brands. Kanter also oversaw the launch of Disney Junior and helped developed shows such as Doc McStuffins, Sofia the First, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and Elena of Avalor. Before her time at Disney, Kanter was an executive producer at Sesame Workshop.
