Disney reorganized its streaming business today.
What happened: With the ongoing expansion in Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer business, the company is creating a new hub for international content creation. Under the direction of Rebecca Campbell as Chairman, International Content and Operations, the division will expand the pipeline of local and regional content for all of Disney’s streaming services.
Campbell in her new role will focus on local and regional content production for Disney’s streaming services, as well as continue overseeing Disney’s international media teams worldwide. Campbell will report directly to Chapek.
The International Content and Operations group will be home to a fourth content-creation engine for Disney, alongside the Studios Content, General Entertainment Content and Sports Content groups.
Netflix’s has shown the success of international content. So, no wonder Disney will try to do the same across all of their streaming services.
Also as part of the reorganization. Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution made a few moves.
Campbell will be responsible for expanding the international content creation pipeline, amplifying the Disney’s localized content strategy, as well as overseeing Disney’s teams in Asia Pacific, EMEA, India and Latin America (who manage the Company’s international linear channels, regional streaming, local ad sales and local distribution). Campbell’s career at Disney has spanned through various senior leadership positions in media, international, and Disney Parks.
Joe Earley moves from a role at Disney+ to the President of Hulu, replacing Kelly Campbell who left Hulu to become the President of Peacock. Earley will lead Hulu into its next era as it continues to be a streaming service player that encompasses films, series, and even live TV in some plans.
Michael Paull will be responsible for all Disney Direct-to-Consumer platforms globally and will also oversee Disney Streaming’s product, technology, data science, operations and viewer experience teams
This recent shakeup does leave a void of who will be the head of Disney+. Be sure to stay tuned to Boardwalk Times for the latest on The Walt Disney Company.
