A New ‘Zootopia’ Show Is Coming To Tree of Life Theater at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Zootopia won’t be replacing Dinosaur, instead, it will replace It’s Tough to Be a Bug at the Tree of Life Theater.

Zootopia has found its way to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

A new show based on Zootopia is being created for the Tree of Life theater at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The show will replace It’s Tough to Be a Bug, an opening-day attraction for the park. It would also mark the second time Disney has removed A Bug’s Life from the Disney Parks for a more recent IP. (Disney California Adventure replaced A Bug’s Land with Avengers Campus).

The details are light for the new Zootopia show but so far we know it will feature Judy Hopps, Nick Wilde, and other fan-favorite characters from Zootopia — such as Officer Clawhauser (in audio-animatronic form) per Walt Disney Imagineering CCO Bruce Vaughn at Destination D23 — as guests discover different biomes.

The Imagineers are currently finalizing the concept and more details will be revealed at a later date. A closing date hasn’t been announced for It’s Tough to Be a Bug. So, it’s safe to assume that this new Zootopia show won’t be coming for a while.

Disney originally wanted to incorporate Zootopia into Animal Kingdom by replacing Dinosaur. The Imagineers were going to just clone a portion of Zootopia Land — including Zootopia Hot Pursuit — from Shanghai Disneyland and put it inside Animal Kingdom. Disney decided to pivot its Dinoland USA replacement plans to Encanto and Indiana Jones (for now).

However, if you’re still excited about the future of Zootopia in the Disney Parks, check out my buddy Drew’s video on Zootopia Land coming to Shanghai Disneyland.
