It’s almost time to face the music, but in the meantime, we have some questions ahead of the final installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.

We are approaching the end of an era.

The Guardians of the Galaxy have been an essential part of the MCU since their debut in 2014. Since then a lot has happened both on and off the screen for the franchise. Writer/Director James Gunn got fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, then he was eventually rehired. The once-unknown franchise would also spawn theme park attractions and a video game.

Now the end is in sight, and it’s almost time to face the music.

But before we do that, we got some questions to ask about the most recent trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3.

Watch the newest trailer:

What’s Adam Warlock’s role going to be?

Adam Warlock was first teased in a post-credit scene for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. Warlock will be played by Will Poulter. It’s also confirmed that Elizabeth Debicki will return as Ayesha. We have seen more shots of Adam Warlock than Ayesha in the trailers. Adam Warlock is an important character in the Marvel universe and fans have been waiting to see him come face-to-face with the Guardians since 2017.

Although it begs the question, what will Adam Warlock’s role be in this film? All signs are pointing to this film being more focused on the High Evolutionary threat. So where does this leave Adam Warlock? Will he potentially play second fiddle? Will he be doing not just Ayesha's bidding but the High Evolutionary’s bidding as well?

Also, we can never rule out the possibility that Adam Warlock could be an antagonist for the majority of the film before siding with the Guardians. Either way, it’s going to be fascinating to see Adam Warlock’s role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3. It’s been seven years of anticipation.

Are we looking at multiple Guardians dying?

“We’ll all fly away together one last time into the forever, and beautiful sky.” — Rocket Raccoon

On the latest episode of Boardwalk Times Multiverse of Marvel, we’re previewing Phase 5 and while discussing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, recurring guest Richard Nebens brought up that he thinks Drax is going to die due to Dave Bautista’s recent comments. Boardwalk Times columnist Iris Nijholt then countered with the suggestion of Rocket Raccoon due to his heavy trailer focus.

But then I came in with a madman theory. I couldn’t believe it the second I thought of it but I had to say it.

What if James Gunn kills off all the Guardians?

He Rogue One’s it. He Suicide Squad’s it.

Could you imagine if Gunn decides not just to kill Rocket Racoon and Drax? What if they all fly away together one last time into the forever and beautiful sky? It would be extremely dark but with a tagline like “it’s time to face the music” and the uncertainty about all the character's futures. I can’t rule this one out.

How will Knowhere factor into the plot?

We now know the Guardians of the Galaxy own the planet of Knowhere. We found this out during the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Now while watching the trailer, I’m wondering how will Knowhere factor into this plot. The Guardians seem more official with actual uniforms now, and I got to assume that Adam Warlock and the High Evolutionary may tie into the Guardians owning the planet of Knowhere.

Knowhere is a fascinating location within the MCU. It’s a head of a celestial that has turned into a living and functioning place to live. Could this be a way for the MCU to establish how dead Celestials could make good places to live? *Cough cough* Tiamut in the ocean from Eternals *cough cough* being used as an island in Captain America: New World Order *cough cough*.

Will the film address Endgame/Love and Thunder/Holiday Special?

The farther away we get from Avengers: Endgame, the less likely it becomes for us to see the ramifications of such a historic event within the MCU. The MCU has moved onto the Multiverse Saga, but the ramifications of Endgame still linger and some aspects still remain unexplored.

Could Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 address more Avengers: Endgame fallout? Do the Guardians keep in contact with other Avengers? What about their time with Thor? Will Vol.3 even address the Guardian's tiny role within Love and Thunder?

Lastly, the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special revealed some new information about our favorite ragtag crew ahead of Vol.3. But will the film address anything from the special? “Footloose” popping up on Star-Lord’s Zune would get massive cheers.

Are we looking at a potential Star-Lord/New Gamora/Nebula love triangle?

The last scene in the trailer has New Gamora telling Star-Lord that the girl he’s describing (the other timeline version of her) sounds more like Nebula. This leads to awkward tension between Star-Lord and Nebula. The scene is likely just meant for a hilarious gag. Yet Star-Lord second-guessing and noticing Nebula’s eyes is making me wonder.

I was wondering how they were going to address Star-Lord and this New Gamora. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special makes it evident that Star-Lord is still reeling from the loss of his Gamora, and that will continue into Vol.3. Although one has to wonder if Star-Lord ends up with New Gamora or Nebula. Love triangles are fun!

Lastly, this may be a bit of a sidenote but I love the tune behind this second trailer. Also, it helps that this trailer is giving me chills. Rainbow’s “Since You’ve Been Gone” is going to be played a lot on my Spotify this year. Breaking down the music of the Guardian of the Galaxy franchise is another one of my favorite things to do.

The film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, Maria Bakalova and Sylvester Stallone.

James Gunn is the director and also wrote the screenplay. Kevin Feige produces with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Sara Smith, and Simon Hatt serving as executive producers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is in theaters on May 5, 2023.
